Presentation

Mission

Conduct research and offer training at an international level with emphasis on the assessment of the current scenario regarding human relations at work and in society, on the study of interpersonal relations at work and in society, and on the production of knowledge in methods and social psychology to support various applications.

Goals

The Post-Graduate Program in Social, Work and Organizational Psychology
(PG-PSTO) is assessed by Capes at level 6 (Program of Excellence – Quadrennial
Evaluation 2017). The goals of the program are to:

1.
 Produce unprecedented knowledge;
2. Develop, apply and evaluate diagnostic and intervention instruments,
procedures and strategies;
3. Provide theoretical and methodological basis for teaching and
research;
4.  Contribute to the improvement of ethical values that should guide scientific
research, teaching and professional practice.

PSTO offers courses at the academic Master and Doctorate level.

Profile of students with a master or doctoral degree

Research Competences:

1.
Master epistemological assumptions of theories and approaches in Social, Work and
Organizational Psychology; 

2. Critically analyze scientific literature on Social, Work and Organizational Psychology;
3.

Formulate relevant research problems arising from this analysis;

4.

 

Identify and formulate relevant research problems, considering
observations from the field and social demands;

5. Outline
research projects and diagnostic projects in social, organizational, work and
educational settings
;
6.

Assess the ethical implications of conducting research and
diagnostic projects in

Social, Work and Organizational Psychology;

7. Assess
the quality of existing measurement instruments or adapt, design and
investigate evidence of the validity of such instruments
;
8. Select
and perform the appropriate analysis of data from research and diagnostic
projects
;
9. Connect
and integrate results from various research studies in the area of Social, Work
and Organizational Psychology
;
10. Discuss
the results of research in the theoretical and methodological field of these
areas, show convergences and possible divergences and formulate explanatory
hypotheses that contribute to the understanding of the studied phenomenon
;
11. Write
texts related to research reports, reviews and syntheses of scientific
literature
;
12. Develop
scientific advice for government agencies, private organizations and specialized
journals
.

 

Teaching
Competences

Elaborate course programs, disciplines and training in the
areas of higher education,

based on the foundations of Social, Work and
Organizational Psychology

2. Develop
lesson plans in these areas, containing objectives, teaching content, assessment
system of the course, pedagogical strategy and bibliography
;
3. Mediate
the teaching-learning process, based on the theoretical and methodological
domain of contents in Social, Work and Organizational Psychology

Competences
related to Science Outreach

1.
Promote
the interaction between science and practice in Social, Work and Social
Psychology Organizations, aiming at formulating, coordinating, executing and
evaluating professional intervention projects
;
2. Assist
public, private, non-governmental organizations, social movements, cultural and
trade unions and minority social groups, based on the foundations of these
areas
;
3. Advise
the realization of public contests of tests and titles
;
4.
Issue
technical appraisals, reports and evaluations in the thematic fields of Social,
Work and Social Psychology Organizations
;
5. Develop
assessment instruments for public tenders and other selection processes
;
6. Develop expertise on thematic issues that require knowledge and methods in the area of Social, Work and Organizational Psychology.
